Mentorship Support & Inspiration

The NurseMentor program 2018-2019 is off to a terrific start with 83 undergraduate students and nursing alumni on board! Many participants are active already, getting to know one another better and setting mentorship goals for the year.

If you are one of those people -- welcome! If you are keen to join, you still can!

As we enter the second year of NurseMentor, we’ve done our best to pair students with like-minded alumni and we will continue to facilitate these pairings as the year moves along. Stay tuned to this page. Any workshops we have planned will be featured here.

In our pilot year we had a total of 38 mentors and mentees. This year we have more than doubled, thanks to the enthusiasm of our undergraduate nursing students and our generous alumni.

We caught a glimpse of that excitement at our NurseMentor Mingle & Appreciation event in September. Turnout was fantastic! Many of our participants from last year dropped by to share stories and insight about mentorship, and new nursing undergrads came by to learn more and take part in the lively discussion.

Our guest speaker, nursing alum and mentor Lorelli Nowell (MN’12, PhD’17) had wise words to share about her research on the value of mentorship:

“Those who are mentored well are more likely to be satisfied in their job … they develop leadership skills that are more and more needed today.”

Nowell delved more into the benefits of mentorship, explaining how mentors nurture professional and personal confidence, foster learning, development and career success, and help create a safe space to communicate and network.

~ Thank you to Lorelli and to everyone who came out that day! And welcome to those to who are new to NurseMentor!

It is going to be an exhilarating year!
